Scan of Timothy Leary’s Neurcomics

Alterati has a link to a torrent file to an out-of-print Timothy Leary comic called Neurocomics published in 1979 by Last Gasp. I have an original copy, and it’s a fun introduction to his 8-circuit model of the brain, popularized by Robert Anton Wilson in Prometheus Rising.

make a semi-adjustable “lifter”

I recently puchased a Belkin “light up” keyboard but was a little dismayed to discover that the little legs that you normally use to adjust the tilt of the keyboard have not been included in the design. Since I hate typing on a flat keyboard I decided to make a semi-adjustable “lifter” to reduce my increase my comfort.

Hiroshi Sugimoto

I am a habitual self-interlocutor. One evening while taking photographs at the American Museum of Natural History, I had a near-hallucinatory vision. My internal question-and-answer session leading up to this vision went something like this: “Suppose you shoot a whole movie in a single frame?” The answer: “You get a shining screen.” Immediately I began experimenting in order to realize this vision. One afternoon I walked into a cheap cinema in the East Village with a large-format camera. As soon as the movie started, I fixed the shutter at a wide-open aperture. When the movie finished two hours later, I clicked the shutter closed. That evening I developed the film, and my vision exploded before my eyes.

Peopled Landscapes

It’s not really a picture of the city, or a picture of people. It’s a peopled landscape! And “landscape” means they don’t have to occur in cities. …

… Here’s how these pictures (good examples and statistical outlyers) might fall on a graph of this idea. # of people on the Y-axis vs degrees of familiarity/recognizability/intrigue of the background on the X-axis:

konfetti el bulli

Ferran, Marketta and Juli at the restaurant.

I have two things of public interest here: a description of my dinner at elBulli, and a (much simpler) writeup of a dinner at Matsuhisa in Los Angeles.

Apple Caviar Steps
Chef Ferrán Adriá of El Bulli – Roses, Spain:

Once apple solution has been made and well-chilled, follow along with this video clip to learn how to complete the apple caviar recipe:

  1. Fill several syringes with apple caviar solution.

Note: Syringes are used in a similar way that pastry chefs use pastry sleeves. A modern technique of extracting the apple solution has not yet been developed so syringes are used instead

  2. Release juice from syringe, one drop at a time, into calcium chloride mixture. At this point, you should see little droplets form resembling caviar. Speed is very important here.
  3. Cook caviar in boiling water for one minute (not shown in video)
  4. Gently strain and rinse caviar in a cold water bath.
  5. Place approximately 2 tablespoons of caviar into mold or decorative tin.

Garnish with passion fruit and a mint leaf.

Mr. Lees Trip

Juergen Perthold:
